Although Mercury spins very slowly, it races around the Sun in just 88 Earth days. A syncopated theme captures the momentum and restless energy of this eager little planet. Rhythmically challenging but highly repetitive, the piece is approachable for developing players once the patterns are established. Written for my own son Reuben, who heard the early sketches and immediately “claimed” it. Approximate level: Grade 3.
