A Home for my Creative Chaos

I’ve actually finally done it!

I’ve been intending to create an online home for my musical meanderings for a very long time, but with three growing offspring and a business to run, it never quite made it to the top of the list. I’m also very aware that I’ve spent most of my life hiding from attention, so this whole ‘sharing’ malarkey feels very unnatural, but as I spend every day of my life encouraging others to get out and share their music, I really ought to do it myself!

Those who've known me a while will know that I’ve always doodled and improvised my own music at the piano. It’s never really felt like a hobby — more like a natural part of my musical personality.

Since opening Keys in 2018, somewhere amongst the avalanche of websites, accounting, lesson planning, timetabling, rehearsing, marketing and general chaos, I seem to have also been blessed with a new creative energy. Some of it has come from necessity — writing for specific events, projects or children (such as Orbit, which I’m releasing first this week!) — but a lot of it has also come from the musicians around me.

Gradually, the messy piles of almost-finished pieces, have grown to the point where I really needed to do something with them. I’ve also been asked increasingly often where people can actually find my music, so this finally felt like the right time to gather everything together into one place.

The things I’ll be sharing here will be a mixture of piano pieces, teaching projects and creative resources I use in Foundation, alongside more complex works and larger collections. There will also be lots of children’s songs and holiday club resources, often with easy piano versions, because writing music for children has become such a big part of my creative life.

One more thing. Over the last few years I’ve completely rediscovered my love of painting and drawing. Creating the artwork for each collection has become part of the creative process itself, and I love being able to build a visual world around the music.

I’ll also be blogging/wittering about inspiration, composing, teaching, projects and all sorts of musical tangents along the way.

I’m actually really excited.
